The University was established in 21 May 1964 under the name of IKIP Yogyakarta. In 4 August 1999 the College's name changed into current name. Currently UNY operated 7 faculties, consist of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics, and Faculty of Sports Sciences.
